Tribute # 3

Richard Britton was dead.
In a race in Ballybunion
Far from lough Erne's shores
A freak accident has taken him
The Fermanagh Flyer is no more
The world of motorcycling
Is thrown into despair
For another champ who loved the sport
Will be no longer there.
Since he started back in '91
He impressed us with his skills
His talent and dedication
Gave us many thrills
A true sportsman on and off the tracks
His easy friendly ways
Endeared him to each and everyone
And his smile was like sunshine rays
At Dundrod and Killilane
Mid Antrim, Tandragee
Faugheen and The Skerries
The North West and the TT
We saw him break lap records
As he raced around the sechanes
and we watched for the big no 8
On the green and white machine
On his funeral day the bikers came
They streamed into the town
The trobbing of their engines
Made a weird and eerie sound
And in graceful procession
With respect and dignity
They led Richard to his resting place
In Breandrum cemetery
No doubt St. Peter said to him
As he stood at heavens gate
Richard, here's your laurel wreath
The podium awaits
And flanked by Gary Jess and Joey
He will stand to take his place
Number one in heaven
He has won his final race
