Ulster GP Final Report

Photo - Derek CleggIt was a mixed bag for Richard Britton at this year’s Ulster GP when first up the Supersock Race saw Richard getting a decent start running in 5th place on lap one. By lap two Richard was in 3rd when heavy rain came down causing the red flag to come out. On the restart with drying conditions Richard again got off the line in 5th place but could only manage a 7th place finish on aggregate.
In the first Superbike again a restart was the order of the day and on lap one Richard was lying in 9th after been held up at the start line. Undeterred he fought his way through the field on the Vitrans Honda and finished in an impressive 4th place. Signs were already showing that both bike and rider were comfortable with each other and by the Ulster GP Superbike race Richard was on form managing to secure a 3rd place finish getting a well deserved podium for himself and his team. “I new on the first lap I was thinking awe God I have the wrong choice of tyre on. I had an intermediate front and a cut slick on the back but the track was drying fast and although I was having a great scrap with Guy Martin I was struggling to keep up the pace” said Richard.
Richard’s 600 races proved to be a struggle for the 600 Yamaha he was on. “It was no match for the Hondas” said Richard and his first 600 outing saw him finish in 10th. The second 600 race Richard had the honour of being the first Yamaha home so all in all the weekend proved to be successful but difficult for the organisers and riders.
On a final note Richard wishes to offer a special thanks to Ian Simpson, Robbie Burns, Andy McKeown and the whole Vitrans team whose support was most gratefully received and was instrumental in seeing the Enniskillen man making yet another Ulster GP podium. There are many others Richard wishes to thank but suffice to say the list is long but you know who you are so thank you too!
Thanks to you the fan for all the support during this Ulster GP Week and it’s off now to the Manx so watch this space!!!
