Team Director Des Moore spoke in detail about Team DMRR’s assault on the 2005 Road Racing season:
"Good morning everyone, thank you for your turnout today. I believe we have some very exciting news for you, and for Irish Road Racing.
We are delighted to present the Team DMRR package for 2005.
DMRR will head up a two man team with top road racers- Richard Britton from Enniskillen & Welsh man Ian Lougher.
Richard and Ian will both be riding Hondas and Team DMRR will be the official Honda entry at the 2005 North West 200, Isle of Man TT and Ulster GP.
At the recent Birmingh
am NEC motorcycle show we held a series of meetings with Neil Tuxworth of Honda which has resulted in a deal which will make Team DMRR, Honda’s official entry for the 3 “big” races.
The news of this commitment from Honda is a fabulous boost to road racing as a whole, the fact that it is with Team DMRR is even better news - for us!
Meanwhile discussions with Ten Kate Racing, have secured a deal to purchase Chris Vermeulens 2004 World Superbike, which will be brought up to 2005 spec. Ten Kate will also tune Richards 600 Supersport and 1000cc Superstock machines.
This deal allows us to build on last years progress with a 600 Supersport Ten Kate Honda on which Richard won the “big” race at Faugheen, beating the lap record in the process, not to mention a credible 3rd place finish in the race of the year at the Ulster GP.
I am really pleased to welcome Ian Lougher on board for 2005. The Honda contracted, six times Isle of Man TT winner is a big boost to any team.
Richard will be teaming up with Ian to ride in the Blackhorse Motorcycle Finance Ltd colours on the 1000cc Superstock machines. Both riders will appear in Team DMRR colours in the Superbike and the 600 SuperSport classes.
My original idea was to set up a 3 year plan for Richard, but I didn’t expect that by November 2004 we would already be in the position that we only expected to be in by 2006. This is really turning out to be one of the most exciting projects I have ever undertaken.
I know that the commitment from Richard and Ian will be outstanding and together with this exceptional package we can all look forward to one of the most competitive racing seasons yet”.
