Enniskillen rider Richard Britton filled a top ten place in first practice for Saturdays Macau Grand Prix on Thursday with the talent Suzuki rider slotting into eight place on Patsy O' Kane’s machine.
In what was a difficult first practice, Britton was quietly confident that with a few adjustments to the bike, he could improve on Friday’s qualifying session.
"Things were not too bad. The weather is really hot and the track was dry, but the cars earlier in the day in their practice spilt oil all over the circuit and we were told of the lack of adhesion before we went off. It made life very difficult for us all in the first session and in the second session it was a little better so much so in fact that I improved my 18th place to 8th. Just when we were getting into first proper timed session, the proceedings were halted for the day after Austrian Erwin Wilding (1000CC Honda) crashed out at the first turn. His bike burst into flames and the practice stopped at once. I hope to put a slipper clutch into the bike tonight as I think it will help at some of the turns" said Britton.
Michael Rutter (Honda) was quickest with John McGuinness (Ducati) second fastest and Thomas Hinterreiter (Yamaha) third.
Britton's team mate Stephen Thompson was 14th fastest while Lusks Martin Finnegan was 11th.
