Killalane - Outright lap record for Britton

Practice on Friday afternoon 2pm till 7pm was a wet affair with only 3 practice sessions taking place. Richard had no practice laps at all and as such limited to a session on Saturday morning on the Sandown Honda 250.

600 Race
After a fine start Richard found himself in the lead after the completion of the first lap. He was setting a hot pace for Farquhar, Finnegan and Martin to follow. Richard overshot at the back end of the circuit allowing the chasing pack through and rejoined the fray in seventh place. Despite best efforts, Richard could make no progress on this and eventually finished the race in this position.

Open Race
Richard and Martin Finnegan both shot off the line together with Richard struggling to keep the front of the big Suzuki on the ground. Finnegan crossed the start line for the first time closely followed by Farquhar with Richard flying through the pack to give chase. He eventually overhauled Ryan on the last lap chasing the big Lusk rider over the line and a well deserved 2nd place. To top this off Richard also came away with the fastest lap at 105.174mph which is now a new outright lap record! With the 7 point difference in championship points between Ryan and Martin at the start of the race – Ryan’s third place effectively handed the title to big Martin, much to the delight of the large crowd around the circuit.

250 GDF Race
What a start for Richard….after another indifferent start, Richard was up into 2nd place at the first corner and leading after the completion of the first lap. Soon crossing the start line after the first lap the race was red-flagged due to an incident at schoolhouse corner. All riders involved thankfully reported to have sustained minor injuries. The race was re-started and again another bad start for Richard but not so for Ryan Farquhar. He was Flyin’ and had a lead of around 2.5 seconds over Guy Martin. Richard was wallowing in fifth at the end of the restart first lap. He rode the wheels of the wee 250 to finally end up in third place but the race belonged to Guy Martin, aboard Darran Lindsay’s 250 machine, for a terrific ride to chase down Ryan and eventually overhaul him on the final lap for a well-deserved victory. Richard came home in 3rd place.

Grand Final
With the wrong choice of tyres by Finnegan resulting in his withdrawal after the warm up lap, this was to be a two horse race between old adversaries Britton and Farquhar. What a cracker this turned out to be with Richard setting the early pace on the Patsy O’Kane Suzuki. Ryan was in his wake for the whole of the race seizing upon a slight error by the Enniskillen man to take the lead on the last lap, running out a very close winner, with Guy Martin a very creditable third.
